How do I connect my Laptop to my BT Hub (wirelessly)?
I have already connected my BT Hub to my computer with wires I am now wanting to connect my Laptop to the Internet my connecting it to the BT Hub.
I can connect it wirlessly becasue the Laptop has a wireless adaptor in it.
Please could anyone tell me how I go about connecting my BT Hub to my Laptop?
I am assuming you are running windows XP on your laptop, and have an active broadband connection. Connect your laptop to the Hub using an ethernet cable for now. Ensure that your wirless card is active. As you are connecting via ethernet you will not need to use the bt disk supplied with the Hub, this is only used if you are connecting via usb.
- Click Start.
- Click Run
- Enter < services.msc>
This will open a massive list on the right of the screen, go to the bottom of the list and look for an entry
Once this has finished exit from these screens back to the Start menu and now select control panel.
- Find Network Connections and select it.
- Select wireless connections from the list
- Now select scan for wirless networks.
Your computer will now display all wirless networks within range of your computer, yours should show as a secured network.
-Select your network. The system should show a dialogue box asking for something called a WEP or network Key. This is found on the router itself, usually on a sticker underneath or on the back. enter this key to enable the connection. Once you have confirmation you are connected you should be able to disconnect the ethernet cable and continue in wireless mode.
