What does the dell default 1-year warranty cover for an e1505 laptop?
i just got one, but opted for no extended warranty. will it replace the whole laptop if it somehow fails, or just parts such as battery or hard drive? how about if the screen pixels fail? thanks for any help
Warranty covers the replacement of defective parts, meaning that if something fails and the failure was not caused by the user, they will replace it at their cost. But if you spill a drink on the keyboard and it shorts your motherboard, or drop it and damage the screen, that is considered “user-abuse” in which case it is not covered…. unless, you have their no-fault warranty, which will cover practically everything, no questions asked. But they won’t replace, say,motherboards or LCDs for an endless number of times. I don’t know where they draw the line, but there is a line. And believe me, they can tell when it’s user abused, even when it’s pristine on the outside. I sit with the Dell techs when they’re repairing our laptops and they show me how they can tell something’s been dropped or cleaned up after something’s been spilled on it.
They will also not replace an entire laptop. They will troubleshoot the problem with you until they can pinpoint the faulty part, then send a replacement with a tech to install it. Or, if you have mail-in service, you mail it in and they will replace the part. But they won’t allow you to just mail it to them and say fix it without troubleshooting it with a tech.
