why does my router not connect with my computer after a windows update?
can I keep windows from updating automatically?
I have a D-link WBR-1320 router and my laptop that it connects to wirelessly runs Vista
I have to do the system restore in order for the router to connect to my laptop so I know that it is the windows update that is the problem.
If you go to the Security Center, you can tell your computer not to update automatically.
Vista has a new networking interface, and can be kind of fickle from my experience 
Start -> Network -> Network Sharing Center
This will show you your computer’s name, and a visual path in which it connects to other devices and the internet. It will tell you where the connection is bad between the devices to give you an idea of what may be wrong.
If you click diagnose and repair, Vista will try several things to refresh and renew your connection. There are also many other options to set up a network on the side.
If this doesn’t help, then without getting into a great bit of detail you can try removing the update, system restore, or contacting the manufacturer for proper installation of the device.
