vista or XP?….and keeping memory?
i have a toshiba satellite A130/A135 series laptop that comes standard with windows vista home basic 32 bit and i was wondering if i should even be running that or if i should downgrade to XP(my comp. runs pretty bad)….and if i were to downgrade, how do i keep my memory?
You shouldn’t have any more problems with Vista 32 at this point than you would with XP. Don’t downgrade – stick with Vista. By now Microsoft has fixed most of the bugs and Vista is at least on par with XP, if not better. In my opinion Vista has less bugs than XP now; however, that doesn’t mean it’s as compatible with drivers, but Vista has come quite a long way with it’s release.
Downgrading to XP isn’t worth it to you for several reasons:
1) The hassle. Vista is good enough now that you should be just fine.
2) The extra money to buy a new copy of XP isn’t worth it
3) I believe you’ll enjoy Vista more than you think you might once you get used to it, as is often the case (that is, since most of the bugs have been fixed by now)
4) Your going to have to swtich to Vista EVENTUALLY anyway, so you might as well jump in, now that it’s at a point where it’s reliable enough to use
5) I believe (I’m not 100% sure of this) that Vista is better at handeling Dual Core Processors, such as that in your Toshiba laptop
To run vista smoothly I recommend at least 2GB of memory. If your laptop doesn’t have that much, I recommend upgrading your memory, which is a relatively cheap an easy upgrade – far easier than downgrading to XP.
