laptop battery which one?
i need a new battery for my dell 9300 laptop, i assume the higher the Mah/ah the better, 7200Mah is what i have been looking at, would there be much difference between that one and a 7800Mah? or would a 4800Mah be ok?? I assume not though, thinking about getting one off ebay, they seem to be a good price and very good feedback for pretty much all battery’s sold. Thanks in advance if anyone could explain it would be great.

The 7200 mah is milliamp hours, in simple terms the battery can provide 7200 milliamps for 1 hour
Now 7200 miliamp hours is the same as 7.2 amp hours or using 7.2 amps for 1 hour
Now assuming your laptop uses 3600 milliamps or (3.6 amps) it would run about 2 hours, do you see how it works yet?
So the 7800 battery would give you a few minutes more and the 4800 battery will give you quite a bit less,
about 1hour 20 minutes (assuming the laptop draws 3600mah for 1 hour and 1200 for the 20 minutes 3600+1200=4800mah
Of course I don’t know exactly what your laptop draws but it may be close to these figures, but at least you can see how more mah is better
this can be had by adding cells or making the cells bigger, that’s why you see 4 cells or 8 cells and so on but the mah is the total and that is how you compare them,
for example your car battery has only 6 cells but they are very large cells giving on the order of 60 – 70 amp hours,(that is different than the CCA of a car battery which is how high an amperage it can supply for a short burst while the car starts)

Those will work, but there are generic so we don’t really know how the quality is, the issue would not be how long they run but rather if they short out and do the flaming/smoking thing that so many lithium batteries have done.
But on the other hand they got feedback that says they work ok, so it’s very possible his brand are made of good quality cells, so if you go with a generic just run it through a few full cycles and make sure there not overheating during draining or charging and you should be good
I dont want to sound like I’m putting a generic battery down, there are plenty generic products that are brand name but just branded and sold by another company, I don’t think there is too many companies that actually make the cells that go in them, so it could be a name brand under the hood, Sony, Samsung and LG are huge suppliers of those cells (it’s possibly the 18650 cells in your pack they are common, you can google that #) so who knows ??
It would be 3 in series to get the 11.1 volts and then more of the “3 in series” connected in parallel (or along side of rather than end to end)to increase the current and run time thus in your pack 6 or 9 cells
While I’m rambling on you dont need to worry about memory in Li-ion cells and drain them as many people believe, and the laptop can be left plugged in, I have 2 and they are plugged in for weeks at a time, see the link below for the care and feeding of all kinds of batteries
